Bangkok Day 2: Pratunam Market, Som Tum Nua and Siam

Day 2: 6 December 2013 (Friday)
Started off this day with a trip to Pratunam Morning Market. Before I went, heard that this place was similar to Bugis village in Singapore just that it is a lot bigger and the clothes there are cheaper cos that place provide wholesale as well. The amount of clothes there was crazy. A lot of options and they usually offer two different prices - normal and wholesale.

The entrance into the main section of Pratunam market

There was pretty little food around Pratunam market except for a whole bunch of snacks selling by the roadside. The only proper food place that we can find is this food court beside Pratunam which was pretty empty. hahaha. Decided to give the Thai iced tea a try and Omg!! It was too sweet for my liking!! :( Such a small cup but I couldn't finish it haha.
The coke is a SMALL size and the iced tea was a medium. HAHA. Ironic much?

Headed off to look for the highly raved Som Tam Nua around Siam Square. More snacks along Pratunam. Chose Auntie Anne's because it was really cheap! HAHA. Just $2 for a pretzel and drink ultra worth it~

Was extremely excited to try out Som Tam Nua cos I have read a lot about it online! Amazing reviews and all the popular bloggers have all mentioned this place.

In order to get there, we had to get to Siam station. However, since we were around Chit Lom, we were able to take the sky walk and walk all the way to Siam. The walk seemed never ending but thank god it was sheltered! The walk took about 20 minutes but since it was a direct walk, it is extremely easy to get there. Upon arriving at Siam station, go down from exit 4 and you will reach Soi 5. Just walk straight to the end, you will be able to see a bright orange signboard and you are there!

Reviews have always said that their chicken wings and pork collar is a must try. And of course not forgetting their Som Tam which is the popular dish in Thailand - Papaya salad!
Entrance to Som Tam Nua!
The famous Som Tum which was crunchy and refreshing. Ultra yum!
Highly raved chicken wings! I really loved this because it was crispy and juicy but does not feel too oily at the same time! But I guess it depends on personal preference, my sis thought it was just ok.

This sliced pork collar was really good. The pork is very thinly sliced and the meat tasted amazing!
Some soup..but I forgot its exact name. My sis personal favourite but the taste was a little too much for me. However their pork inside was so tender and soft so the meat was superb.

After our meal was more shopping time. We also wanted to explore Mr Jones Orphanage since it was just at Siam Square. Walked over to Siam square and that was one pretty shopping centre! Even the toilets were pretty hahahaha.
Toilet entrance! Pretty right!

Anyway, Mr Jones Orphanage is an extremely cute and pretty cafe that is designed to look like a child's dreamland! Bears, train racks and toys are used to decorate this place and the seats are all train seats! Their cakes are pretty and all laid out for you to take your pick. Really feel like a kid all over again when you're back there! Nice cosy place to chill and relax after a day of shopping and extra credit should be given to them for taking in all the little details when it comes to decoration! Let the pictures do the talking! :)

Red velvet cake
Strawberry waffles which was so so so gooooood!!!!! Whole lot of whip cream topped with a generous amount of strawberries! For someone like me who is not exactly into whip cream, this was still delicious for me because the whip cream really brought the whole taste together!

Because we ate so much during the day, we were both too full for dinner. hahaha. Ended our day with more massage and today we opted for Thai massage. Cracked our bones and I felt really "loose" after HAHA. Anyway the massage parlour that we chose this time was the second one from 7-11 with their staff wearing orange. This is the one that I strongly recommend! And yeap, after rewarding ourselves with Macs for supper, its the end of day 2!
